Challaborough Paddleboard Lessons

Paddleboard Lessons

Looking for fun days out in Devon? Learn how to paddleboard with ABC Watersports! We’ll share our knowledge and passion with you for this fun and highly rewarding sport.

All ABC Watersports staff are registered members of British Canoeing, the National Governing Body for paddlesports. Each staff member is trained to (and very often above) the standard required by British Canoeing to provide these activities and this includes a 16 hour first aid qualification. ABC Watersports staff carry the necessary first aid and safety equipment with them at all times.

Paddleboarding is one of the fastest growing sports in the UK. With more and more people getting out on the water there has never been a better opportunity to give it a go yourself. We have 3 levels of stand up paddleboard lessons so take a look below and choose which one suits you best!
Each session lasts 2 ½ hours.

Want to find out if paddleboarding is for you before investing in a board and kit? We totally support the ‘try before you buy’ approach. In our Intro to Paddleboarding sessions, we’ll show you the best paddle boards for beginners and run through the pros and cons of each board size. We’ll also take you through what kit you need and how to use it whilst answering any questions you may have.

Once on the water, we’ll give you the foundation skills needed to manoeuvre the board effectively and with ease. These skills include forward paddling, stopping, turning and bracing. When you feel comfortable on the board, we’ll help you to your feet. This is the best way to experience the water! Once you are up, we will revisit the skills learnt on your knees and apply them to your new standing position.

By the end of the session, you’ll know for sure whether paddleboarding is your new favourite hobby!

Each session is 2 ½ hours long and will be both land and water based.

Kit Provided:

  • Paddleboard
  • Paddle
  • Buoyancy Aid
  • Wetsuit (unless you want to bring your own)

For those with their own board & kit

If you are thinking about going for one of our intermediate stand up paddleboard lessons, be ready to get wet. Pushing what you can already do on a board is a fun and rewarding process, however you will fall in at some point. Don’t worry, this is part of your journey.

At ABC Watersports we will develop your paddling technique so you can paddle faster when you need to and longer when you want to. We can test your stability and show you how to relax on your board. Our instructors will share their sneaky manoeuvres with you so you can make your SUP experience smoother. We’ll also demonstrate rescue methods that you can use to help yourself and your friends.

The possibilities on your paddleboard are endless, let us show you how far you can go with yours.

For those with their own board & kit

You’ve probably seen someone standing at the back of their SUP board, spinning in circles and thought “how are they doing that?” We can show you! We will get you moving around on your board and explain why it can help you. We can show you how to help others in tricky conditions from your board.

Allow us to get you to a level where you are confidently standing up, moving around on your board, helping others and enjoying your time on the water without the worry of falling in.

It’s a process our instructors have all been through and we look forward to guiding you through your own learning journey.
